Description:
A model for understanding work. There are three kinds of work you can do:
- Mapping. This is planning, plotting, prioritizing.
- Making. This is manufacturing and executing. The writing, the drawing, the implementing, etc.
- Meshing. This is the growing – the developing of skills, knowledge, curiosity.
The combination of each three kinds of work make you a specific type of worker.
Examples:
- Mapping + Making + Meshing = The Developer
- Mapping + Making = The Driver (really good at his job, but not much outside of that)
- Making + Meshing = The Drifter (moves from project to project, but doesn’t complete any. He’s the lifelong amateur or dilettante).
- Mapping + Meshing = The Dreamer (daydreams a lot, talks about what he wants, reads a lot about what he wants, but rarely makes anything)
The goal is to become the developer. You want to map out your plans, make things according to those plans, and grow yourself to develop new plans and things.
